1289 Is following Jesus in His earthly ministry the same as following Jesus in our day and time? My answer to this question is a definite NO. While I truly believe that we Christians must place God first in our lives, prioritizing spiritual things above earthly things; we have to understand that while we are not of this world, we live in this world. In the time of Jesus' ministry following Him did mean one needed to leave one's life behind in order to effectively join and follow Him. It was not possible to put one's heart and soul into His ministry if one had the cares of life to hinder one's commitment. While I hear, understand, and support what Kyle is saying about being truly committed to Jesus and not just mouthing a kind of phony commitment which has no substance, the message put forth in this book can easily lead the reader into condemnation. The grace aspect of what Jesus accomplished for us is clearly lost within the pages of Not A Fan. Jesus died, was buried, resurrected, and ascended into heaven to make the more than abundant life available to us. Unless we are called to the mission field or some similar ministry, leaving our families and life behind is not required in order for our enriching of the Kingdom of God. The fact is that living our lives for God, prioritizing our actions and commitments, giving praise to God while we perform our daily activities, is exactly what's needed to allow our lights to shine, and attract the lost to Him, as they will see how God is blessing us and they will want the same. We are blessed to be a blessing! We cannot do this if we leave our lives behind.This book is a clear miss in my opinion and may lead Christians into a life of condemnation. Those new to the Christian life should especially avoid this book. A message of performance based Christianity rather than a message of grace is what I received as I read through the pages of Not A Fan.
